A very fine amber carving of five scholars, wearing long, billowing robes, standing on a rocky mountain, below them a servant holds a board on which the Ba Gua, or Eight Trigrams, are depicted. A deer, a crane and lingzhi fungus are also portrayed in the scene and, on the reverse, a large door, above which is the two-character inscription Yanxia (rosy clouds), with a further inscription down the side of the portal reading Wulaoshan (Five Old Men Mountain), and a gnarled pine tree. The whole is finely detailed and the material is a deep orange tone with some darker markings. With a carved wood stand.
