Summer Catalogue 2009

The world of Asian art seems to have a special kind of strength, which may have something to do with the international taste for Chinese art in particular, and the resilience and devotion of those who collect it.

The rare and unusual are still hard to find, and we are fortunate to be able to offer for sale such a broad group of Chinese works of art. The majority have recently been released from private collections and many were purchased in the first half of the twentieth century, when taste and knowledge of Chinese art was still being discussed and developed by Westerners.

We do hope that those who travel to London during the summer will come and see the exhibition, and that those who are unable to visit us will enjoy the catalogue..

I feel I must acknowledge the tireless efforts of the late Anthony Evans in assisting us with his connoisseurship and linguistic abilities. He was a unique personality who will be greatly missed, but his memory will endure among those of us who had great respect and sincere affection for him.
