A rare, large pewter basin with a barbed flange rim, the interior is decorated in gilding with a dream-like scene of a lady, her maid and a gentleman. The figures seem to float on clouds with their long robes billowing in the wind. The man holds a fruiting branch and turns to look at the woman and the maid holds a large fan. All set in a garden with a terrace, pavilion roofs, a large fruiting tree from which a fish emerges, rocks and flowers, amid clouds. The rim is decorated with floral sprays interspersed with containers of flowers. |
