| 31 A fine painted pottery camel Northern Qi or early Tang dynasty Length: 14 1/2 in, 37 cm in a recumbent posture with its legs tucked beneath it and its head raised. Its head is well modelled with large, protuberant eyes, flared nostrils and a slightly open mouth. Its head, neck and front haunches are carved to simulate thick fur. Its short tail rests on its hind legs. It has a plain, detachable saddlecloth. The grey pottery bears traces of original pigment. |
