Roger Keverne 2005

We are pleased to present this catalogue of our Winter exhibition, which is held to correspond with Asian Art in London, of which I have the honour to be chairman this year. The position of London as a pre-eminent centre for Chinese art has been maintained by scholars, dealers, auctioneers and enthusiasts over the years, and it is a tribute to all of them that so many people with an interest in the subject come here on such a regular basis.

London is blessed this year with the exhibition China: The Three Emperors 1662–1795, to be held at the Royal Academy of Arts from 12 November 2005 to 17 April 2006. It will be many years before we are privileged to witness such an exhibition again. We ourselves are offering for sale over one hundred ceramics, works of art and paintings in our exhibition, and we hope this catalogue gives an idea of the diversity and depth of artistic endeavour the Chinese artist and artisan was able to achieve.

Many of the exhibits have been held in prestigious private collections, and we are fortunate to have objects from the collections of Avery Brundage, Henri, Comte Chandon de Briailles, Cheng Te-k’un, Lord Hesketh, Percy Levy, Countess Moira Rossi de Montelera, Alfred Schoenlicht, Floyd Segel, and the Toguri Museum of Art, among others.
