A fine and rare painted enamel censer

Qianlong mark and period

Width: 9 in, 22.8 cm

with a globular body, a straight shoulder, a waisted neck and an upright rim, all supported on three cabriole legs in the form of lingzhi fungus; two similar S-shaped handles join the body to the rim.

18th century

Height: 23 3/4 in, 60.5 cm

of square section with bell-shaped bases, knopped columns and flaring central and upper drip-pans; the rims are gilt (now worn) and chased with key-fret, and notched, vertical flanges embellish the corners.

A rare champlevé enamel double-gourd vase

18th century

Height: 5 7/8 in, 15 cm

supported on a spreading foot with a recessed base. The vase is decorated with numerous bats in coloured enamels against gilt cloud scrolls, all against a turquoise ground.

A rare cloisonné enamel disc

Wanli mark and period

Diameter: 3 1/2 in, 8.9 cm

one side is enamelled with six red characters, reading Namo emituofo (Homage to Amitabha Buddha, or I devote myself to Amitabha Buddha), and a lotus scroll on a turquoise ground above cloud lappets surrounding the central aperture.

late 16th–early 17th centuries

Height: 8 1/2 in, 21.6 cm

with a flattened globular body, a small, rectangular gilt-bronze foot ring and a bulbous mouth; two strap handles terminating in ruyi heads join the mouth to the shoulders.

Late 18th century

Width: 2 1/4 in, 5.7 cm

of hemispherical section and standing on a straight foot, the vessel has lobed sides and a flat back, to which a shaped bronze fitting, for attachment, is applied.

the ovoid body stands on a shaped foot, rises to a long neck, to which two archaistic phoenix handles decorated with C-scrolls on lapis-lazuli grounds are applied, and terminates in a gilt rim.

after an archaic bronze original. The circular section vessel is supported on a swollen stem with a stepped foot and wide base; two gilt-bronze annular handles are applied to the sides.

A pair of good cloisonné enamel incense burners in the form of birds

18th century

Length: 8 in, 20.2 cm

each with its head turned quizzically, a long flaring tail, an open gilt beak, for the release of the incense smoke, and gilt legs and feet; the wings form a heart-shaped cover for the aperture in the bird’s back.
